Job summary

San José Public Library (SJPL) is hiring Library Pages to support customer service and handling library materials across branches. Positions are 16 hours per week year‑round, with schedules including evenings and weekends, depending on location.

Candidates should be able to file materials, assist at service desks, explain policies, and help patrons register for cards. Bilingual skills are preferred but not required; training is provided.

Qualifications

• Two years of high school completion.
• Experience with e-resource platforms (Hoopla, Kindle, Kanopy, Libby).
• Proficient in MS Office Suite (Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, Teams, SharePoint, Excel).

Responsibilities

• Provide direct customer service and handle library materials.
• Assist at the customer service desk and maintain a welcoming environment.
• Check materials in/out and help patrons register for a borrower card.
• Explain library policies and handle challenging customer behavior.
• Answer questions in person and over the phone.
• Retrieve items from shelves and assist with catalog searches.
• Collect fines and other payments; coordinate with team.
