Job summary

Palmdale City Library seeks a Library Operations Supervisor to oversee daily staff, ensure efficient workflows, and maintain high patron service. Working with library leadership, you will address operational needs and promote a welcoming environment.

The role reports to the Library Director; requires a Bachelor's degree and supervisory experience. Proficiency in MS Office and strong communication, plus bilingual English/Spanish preferred, with ability to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree is required.
• ALA-accredited MLS or MLIS degree or current enrollment in a library master’s degree program is desirable.
• Experience in customer service, administrative operations, or a comparable setting involving detailed procedures and direct interaction with the public is required or preferred.
• Prior supervisory experience strongly preferred and leadership through projects or as lead employee will be considered.
• Strong organizational, problem-solving, and written and verbal communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Supervise assigned staff, including scheduling, coaching, training, and feedback on performance.
• Monitor daily library operations and ensure staffing, service coverage, and completion of work.
• Support hiring, onboarding, and training of new employees with leadership and HR.
• Identify staff training needs and deliver training on library procedures, customer service, technology, and safety.
• Communicate expectations and operational updates clearly and model professionalism and teamwork.
• Help develop and maintain library procedures and efficient workflows.
• Address patron concerns and resolve service issues.
• Collect operational statistics and prepare reports.
• Collaborate with leadership, vendors, LS&S departments, and partners to resolve issues.
• Support emergency preparedness and a safe environment.
• Stay informed about community needs and recommend improvements.
• Keep Library Director informed of concerns and follow through on actions.
• Follow legal and policy requirements related to patron privacy and records.
