About the Team

ACCEL Schools is hiring a highly qualified Library Media Specialist at Barber Preparatory Academy in Highland Park, MI.

As a Library Media Specialist at Barber Preparatory Academy, you will play a pivotal role in providing a well-balanced media center to enhance and support the school's educational goals and objectives. Your responsibilities will be diverse, including serving as a teacher and instructional partner, program manager, and specialist. You will have the unique opportunity to develop and implement research-based instructional practices in early literacy.

About the Opportunity:
  • Prepare and deliver lesson activities to promote reading and learning through books.
  • Differentiate instruction to meet the needs of all students.
  • Maintain library materials by organizing and cataloging all books, videos, and additional resources.
  • Collaborate with school leadership and teachers to incorporate library resources and skills into the curriculum.
  • Manage student behavior.
  • Create a positive classroom environment for students to learn in.
  • Implement school-wide culture expectations and norms.
  • Communicate and meet with families regarding the academic and social-emotional growth of their child.
  • Incorporate technology skills into daily practice to support learning.
  • Participate in the planning and implementation of non-instructional activities as needed.
  • Collaborate and communicate effectively with colleagues.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
About You:
  • Active and current state of Michigan teaching license with Library Media subject endorsement.
  • Bachelor's degree in education or related field.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to appropriately manage confidential information.
  • Able to supervise students of various ages.
  • Ability to pass federal and state criminal background checks.
  • Experience working within an urban environment.
