Job summary

Jersey City Free Public Library seeks a Building Maintenance Worker at the Earl Morgan Branch to perform cleaning and basic building maintenance. Under direction, you will maintain public areas, assist with minor repairs, and help keep the facility safe and welcoming for patrons and staff.

The role requires OSHA 10 within 45 days and a NJ driver’s license if vehicle operation is necessary. Full-time, 35 hours/week, with a starting salary of $39,942–$40,986 per year.

Qualifications

• Experience performing cleaning and basic building maintenance tasks.
• Ability to lift and move moderately heavy objects.
• OSHA 10 Card required or must be obtained within 45 days of employment.
• Ability to read, write, speak, understand and communicate in English.

Responsibilities

• Cleans rooms, offices, public areas and restrooms.
• Washes and cleans windows, floors, rugs; may perform painting in branch areas.
• May make minor repairs to heating, electrical and other building systems.
• Empties wastebaskets and manages recycling; assists with storage of materials.
• Distributes supplies to branch staff and customers.
• Trims hedges, rake leaves, spreads sand or salt on icy surfaces.
• Inspects windows, doors, locks and fixtures to ensure security.
