Job summary

Scioto County Public Library in Portsmouth, OH seeks a reliable Custodian to maintain clean, safe facilities and grounds under supervision of the Maintenance Coordinator.

High School diploma or equivalent, 6 months–1 year custodial experience, OSHA card, valid driver’s license and reliable transportation are required. Ability to work evenings and weekends; proficiency with Microsoft Office and strong communication are valued.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or equivalent.
• 6 months–1 year of custodial or janitorial experience.
• Must possess or obtain OSHA card.
• Ability to meet scheduled hours including evenings and weekends.
• Driver’s license, auto insurance, and reliable transportation.
• Commitment to excellence in customer service and representing the library positively.
• Exceptional communication skills, both verbal and written.
• Ability to use Microsoft Office Suite and adapt to new software.

Responsibilities

• Ensure library facilities are clean, operational, and safe; preventative maintenance.
• Performs general custodial work inside and outside: floor care, painting, trash removal, daily cleaning.
• Respond to fire and security alarms.
• Seasonal groundskeeping including landscaping, snow removal from walkways.
• Assist with evaluating maintenance needs and contacting contractors.
• Assist other Departments as needed; other duties as assigned.
