Job summary

Kansas City, Kansas Public Library (KCKPL) is seeking a Data Specialist to support data collection, analysis, and reporting across library services and initiatives.

You will compile weekly, monthly, and annual reports from the ILS and other data sources, develop visualizations, and communicate findings to administrators and staff to guide planning and decision-making.

Strong analytical skills and experience with dashboards are desired, along with a commitment to public-service goals and accuracy.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in data analytics, statistics, business, or a related field, or equivalent mix of education and experience.
• Experience with data collection, analysis, reporting, or related work.
• Strong proficiency with spreadsheets, databases, and data analysis and reporting tools.
• Ability to analyze quantitative and qualitative data to identify trends, patterns, and meaningful insights.
• Experience developing reports, data visualizations, dashboards, or other tools to clearly communicate findings.
• Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills with a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to present data and findings to both technical and non-technical audiences.
• Experience working in a library, nonprofit, government, educational, or other public-service organization preferred.
• Ability to provide own transportation to and from library locations or other metropolitan-area systems.
• Willingness to work evenings, weekends, and extra duty as needed.
• Must support and uphold the mission, procedures, and policies of KCKPL.
• Must pass a background check according to library standards.

Responsibilities

• Compile and distribute weekly, monthly, annual, and as-needed statistical reports from ILS and other data sources.
• Analyze library usage, circulation, programming, digital services, and other data to identify trends.
• Track usage and programming trends in relation to demographic and geographic trends in Wyandotte County.
• Develop reports, data visualizations, and tools that clearly communicate findings to stakeholders.
• Identify KPIs and measures for evaluating library services, programs, marketing efforts, and initiatives.
• Work with Marketing to analyze audience behavior, campaign performance, and reach.
• Provide data analysis and recommendations to support ongoing and future library initiatives.
• Assist with required library reports and surveys for outside agencies and professional organizations.
• Work with Administration and staff to fulfill statistical requests and support projects.
• Present data findings and recommendations in clear formats for technical and non-technical audiences.
• Attend library-related meetings, workshops, and professional development.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
