Job summary

The Town of Needham's Needham Free Public Library seeks a part-time Library Circulation Assistant to support patron services, checkouts, registrations, and general desk duties under the Circulation Supervisor.

The successful candidate will have strong customer service, good communication, and basic tech skills to operate the library system and assist with routine tasks. This role requires the ability to stand for long periods and lift up to 45 lbs.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• At least one year of general experience, preferably in a library.
• Excellent customer service and ability to interact with the public.
• Proficiency with office software and library web applications.
• Strong verbal and written communication with staff and patrons.
• Ability to stand for long periods, lift up to 45 lbs, and push book carts.

Responsibilities

• Handle circulation desk duties: checkouts, renewals, holds, registrations, and patron questions.
• Maintain records in the library network system and assist with opening/closing tasks.
• Assist in collection maintenance and displays as needed.
• Support library initiatives and collaborate with other departments.
• Create welcoming environment and enforce library policies.
