Job Details

Title: Library Assistant (Hourly)

Summary: Reports to the Head Librarian. Responsible for circulation desk operations, assisting patrons, handling fines, managing student holds, opening/closing the library, monitoring security, maintaining equipment, and handling mail.

Responsibilities include:

  • Office duties supporting faculty, staff, and students, such as word processing, data entry, filing, mail processing, and duplication
  • Data collection and report generation
  • Creating handouts, newsletters, brochures, manuals
  • Answering phones, routing calls, responding to inquiries
  • Handling budget figures, requisitions, expenditures, payments, invoices
  • Maintaining tracking systems
  • Operating office equipment
  • Performing circulation desk duties
  • Maintaining collection and stacks, shelving, shelf reading, cleaning
  • Supporting librarians and library staff
  • Other duties and special projects as assigned
Qualifications

Knowledge: Office procedures, customer service, basic computer applications

Skills: Confidentiality, effective communication, organizational skills, teamwork, customer service, accurate filing, following instructions, punctuality

Preferred: Knowledge of Library of Congress Classification, experience with online systems like SirsiDynix, library customer service experience

Technology Skills: Proficiency with spreadsheets, word processing, databases, presentations, social media, desktop publishing, webpage updates

Work Experience: Related experience in libraries or bookstores preferred; required work experience as applicable

Physical Requirements: Ability to sit/stand for long periods, lift up to 35 pounds, maneuver book trucks

Pay Rate: $23.00/hour
