Job Description
The Library Assistant - Circulation greets visitors to the library, creates and maintains patron accounts, checks materials in and out, and performs other related duties.
Essential Functions:
- Provides exceptional customer service to external and internal customers. Responds to and resolves patron questions or concerns.
- Greets patrons and maintains a welcoming library atmosphere.
- Checks materials in and out, creates and updates patron accounts, shelves materials, and assists patrons in finding materials.
- Assists patrons with searching the catalog and requesting materials. Provides reader’s advisory and book recommendations.
- Processes and labels new materials; assists with repairs to damaged library materials.
- Assists with book displays to promote library usage.
- Assists with meeting room use. Verifies registrations and signs groups in and out.
- Participates in the library’s ongoing training program.
Non-Essential Functions:
- Assists with library programs or outreach events as needed.
- Moves and arranges furniture and equipment as needed.
- Works evenings and weekends as required.
- Performs all other related duties as required.
Qualifications: Education and Work Experience
- High School diploma; 1-2 years of library or customer service experience, or any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge and skills.
- Proficient with computers, Microsoft Office/Google Workspace, and office equipment.

- Frequently required to perform basic physical activities and communicate effectively to carry out essential job duties.
