Salary Range:

Librarian: Starting $53,196 annualized with flexibility, commensurate with education, experience, and qualifications.

Senior Librarian: Starting $60,918 annualized with flexibility, commensurate with education, experience, and qualifications.

Job Summary

The UT San Antonio Libraries seek a Businessand Data Analysis Librarian who demonstrates enthusiasm andcreativity in a rapidly changing information environment. Thisposition plays a key role in supporting the institution's teachingand research missions by serving as a relationship-centered liaisonto the Alvarez College of Business, providing data-informedbusiness research support, delivering course-integrated instructionand workshops for undergraduate and graduate students, faculty, and research teams, and developing collections that support businessdisciplines.

The Business and Data Analysis Librariandesigns, teaches, and assesses in-person, online, and hybridworkshops, instruction sessions, tutorials, research guides, andreusable learning resources that strengthen business research, dataliteracy, analytical reasoning, data visualization, and responsibleAI and data-use practices. This position collaborates with facultyto develop online instructional content and assessments andprovides consultations on applied data workflows, includingresearch question refinement, data source selection, analysisplanning, visualization strategies, reproducible researchpractices, and effective communication of research findings.

Core Responsibilities

Librarian

  1. Contributes to the development and assessment of libraryprograms, policies, and services to promote efficient, effectiveoperations aligned with library and institutional goals.
  2. Plays an active role in developing procedures for theoperations of the university library.
  3. Stays informed of current research and trends in the field, newtechnologies, and professional knowledge to proactively evolvelibrary services and introduce new and relevant programs.
  4. Develops and oversees departmental projects to support goalsand objectives, ensuring the library effectively serves UT SanAntonio's educational and informational needs.
  5. Gathers and analyzes data to improve services, makeevidence-based decisions, and enhance user experience andengagement.
  6. Works collaboratively and productively with colleagues, stafffrom other library units, and other university departments andoffices.
  7. May be responsible for the supervision of staff, includinghiring, training, work assignment, planning, scheduling,performance evaluations, and professional development
  8. Serves as a Libraries liaison to the UT San Antonio departmentsand the community.
  9. Performs other duties as assigned.

Senior Librarian

  1. Develops and evaluates library programs, policies, and servicesto ensure efficient and effective library services that align andsupport the library and institutional goals.
  2. Develops policies and procedures for the operations of theuniversity library. Interprets policy, manages complexissues, and establishes the framework for consistent, high-qualitylibrary service.
  3. Stays informed of current research and trends in the field, newtechnologies, and professional knowledge to proactively evolvelibrary services and introduce new and relevant programs.
  4. Develops and manages projects to enhance library services,improve operational efficiency, and meet the evolving informationaland educational needs of the university. Providesguidance, mentorship, and directions to other library staff andproject teams.
  5. Analyzes and interprets data to improve services, makeevidence-based decisions, and enhance user experience andengagement. Reports on trends and patterns to libraryleadership to support data-based decisions and strategicplanning.
  6. Works collaboratively and productively with colleagues, stafffrom other library units, and other university departments andoffices.
  7. Manages staff, including hiring, training, work assignment,planning, scheduling, performance evaluations, and professionaldevelopment.
  8. Serves as a liaison between the UT San Antonio departments andthe community. Serves as a mentor to other librarians.
  9. Performs other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

Librarian

  • ALA-accredited Master's degree in Library Science or Libraryand Information Science.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working in an academic library setting.
  • Degree or coursework in a business field or data analysis.

  • Demonstrated ability to provide creative and innovativelearning experiences through the application of appropriatepedagogies and educational technologies.
  • Experience using or teaching specialized business, financial,market, economic, demographic, consumer, entrepreneurship, open, orproprietary data resources, including licensed subscriptionplatforms, government sources, or open data environments.
  • Proficiency in, or the ability to develop proficiency in, oneor more tools used for data analysis, visualization, dashboarding,or reproducible research, such as Excel, SQL, R, Python, Tableau,Power BI, SAS, SPSS, Stata, or comparable platforms.
