Job summary

The Librarian I (Web Services) at The Chronicle Of Higher Education, Inc. will design and maintain library websites and web-based apps with a focus on accessibility and usability.

They will assist staff with creating accessible online content and collaborate with IT to enhance discovery interfaces and web catalogs. Responsibilities include training staff, developing web content, evaluating interfaces, and reporting on site analytics, while staying current with WCAG standards and open-source

Qualifications

• Master’s degree in CS, MIS, or MLS with 0-1 year of related experience.
• Bachelor’s degree in CS, MIS, or related field with 4-5 years of related experience.

Responsibilities

• Develops and maintains accessible public and staff websites using local files and content management systems.
• Trains and assists staff with development and maintenance of web content.
• Collaborates with Library Special Collections to develop web exhibits and with IT staff to enhance user interfaces.
• Reviews content for currency and revises as needed.
• Evaluates online interfaces for usability and WCAG compliance.
• Uses analytics to evaluate and report on website usage.
• Keeps staff informed of important technology issues and suggests enhancements.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.

Job Summary:

The Librarian I (Web Services) is responsible for designing andmaintaining library web sites and web-based applications, with afocus on content and user interface accessibility and usability.They assist other library staff with creating accessible onlinecontent, including instruction and marketing materials. They workwith the Director of Automated Systems, Systems Manager, and otherSystems staff to evaluate and enhance the library online catalogand other discovery interfaces.

Duties & Essential Job Functions:

1. Develops and maintains accessible public and staff websitesusing local files and scripts and 3rd party content managementsystems.
2. Trains and assists library staff with development andmaintenance of web content. Consults with staff on special projectsas requested.
3. Works with Library Special Collections to develop web exhibits,and works with Library Systems and TCU IT staff to develop andenhance user interfaces for specialized web applications.
4. Reviews content on library public and staff web sites forcurrency; consults with staff and revises content as needed.
5. Evaluates library online interfaces for usability and WCAGaccessibility standards compliance.
6. Uses analytics reports and other tools to evaluate and report onweb site usage.
7. Monitors developments in the field by participating inprofessional organizations and training opportunities; keeps otherlibrary staff informed of important technology issues; suggestsenhancements to other library services as appropriate.
8. Performs other related duties as assigned.

Required Education & Experience:

• Master’s degree in Computer Science, MIS (Management InformationSystems), or a closely related field, or an ALA-accredited Master’sin Library Science, and 0-1 year of related experience
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, MIS (Management Information Systems), or a closely related field, and 4-5 years of related experience

• Experience in a library environment
• Experience supporting technology in a higher educationenvironment.
• Experience with open-source software development andtroubleshooting.
• Experience using web user interface frameworks such asBootstrap.
• Experience using SQL and relational databases.
• Experience managing and configuring Windows IIS webservers.
