Job summary

The Librarian I at King William County Library System in Indio, CA is an entry-level position within the Librarian family. The role supports library programs and services through thoughtful policies, practical workflows, and sustainable approaches under supervision of the Branch Manager or Deputy Director.

Qualifications

• MLS or MLIS degree required.
• One year librarian experience preferred.
• Proficiency in MS Office (Excel/Word/PowerPoint).
• Knowledge of online library databases and services.
• Excellent customer service skills.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Able to work a flexible schedule including weekdays, evenings and weekends.
• Bilingual English/Spanish required for this position due to patron/community needs.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate and execute a variety of programs and initiatives for the library.
• Evaluate basic statistical data and prepare basic statistical reports and surveys for the library, LS&S management and other entities i.e. local government/customers.
• Process, create and edit bibliographic and item records for the library catalog.
• Maintain and update the library social media presence and webpage and may support social media of other branches.
• Provide reference and computer help to patrons.
• Serve on committees and at times may serve as the chairperson for committees.
• May supervise junior Library Associates which includes managing performance, evaluation, interviewing/hiring, training and approving timesheets.
• Follow privacy and custodianship of patron records; adhere to library policies and freedoms.
