Job summary

PIMA County Public Library at the Joel D. Valdez Main Library seeks an experienced Librarian I to join the Circulations Services team. The role emphasizes outstanding customer service, knowledge of circulation procedures, and the use of the Sierra ILS.

You will travel between locations during the day and supervise staff as assigned. The position requires a Bachelor’s degree and three years in libraries or related fields; MLIS is preferred.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Library Science, Liberal Arts, Information Management, Public Administration or related field with 3 years in libraries, customer service, education, or similar.
• Minimum two (2) years experience with circulation policies, procedures, and Sierra (ILS) functions.
• Minimum two (2) years experience supervising staff in a public library setting.
• Master's degree in library and information science (MLIS) from an ALA-accredited program (preferred).
• Experience leading or participating in projects that improve library services or operations.
• Experience prioritizing multiple tasks while staying organized within timeframes.
• Bilingual (English/Spanish - speaking, reading, writing).

Responsibilities

• Oversees assigned service area within a library by developing, presenting, and coordinating services for all members of the public.
• Serves as supervisor in charge of the library as assigned.
• Assists public by finding and relaying library and community resource information and helping use catalog, tech, and equipment.
• Develops and presents educational programs and services, including early literacy programs, community outreach, youth advisory boards, and tech instruction.
• Supervises library employees, volunteers, and interns by training, scheduling, and evaluating performance.
• Implements public service best practices, including culturally competent programming, public relations, and conflict resolution.
• Performs facilities management duties by monitoring maintenance issues and resolving technical problems.
• Participates in systemwide committee meetings focused on youth/adult services and library strategy; attends trainings to incorporate best practices.
