Job summary

Greenville County Library System seeks a Librarian I for Cataloging at Hughes Main Library. You will perform original and copy cataloging across formats, apply MARC/AACR2/RDA, and manage classification with Dewey, adding local data and authority records.

This exempt, full-time role requires an MLIS from an ALA-accredited program or trainee pathway; prior cataloging experience is preferred.

Qualifications

• MLIS from an ALA-accredited program or eligibility for Librarian Trainee pathway.
• Experience in cataloging using MARC, AACR2 and RDA rules.
• Familiarity with Dewey Decimal Classification and local authority control.
• Ability to add local data and subject headings to records.
• Knowledge of authority files and creating local authority records.

Responsibilities

• Performs original and copy cataloging across formats (books, media, eContent).
• Maintains and updates the library system’s catalog and classifications.
• Applies MARC, AACR2, and RDA standards; uses Dewey; adds local data and headings.
• Searches OCLC authority records and creates local authority records.
• Ensures data accuracy and adheres to established procedures.
