The Collection Librarian for Media is responsible for the selection, purchasing, and maintenance of materials in both physical and digital formats, within an assigned collection area and defined budget. The collection areas of responsibility include but are not limited to video formats of DVD and Blu-ray, music CD's, video games, adult graphic novels and a wide range of nontraditional materials in the Library of Things collection. This position works closely with the Library Materials Services (LMS) team and collaborates with staff across the library district to ensure the collection remains current, relevant, and responsive to the needs of the community.
Candidates who are successful in this role will demonstrate strong skills in collection development, budget management, and cross-department collaboration, along with a passion for curating innovative materials that enrich the patron experience.

Compensation:
$28.70 - $35.87 an hour without an MLIS degree
$59,700 - $74,600 annually with an MLIS degree
EssentialDuties and Responsibilities:
30% MATERIALS SELECTION
- Selects and orders physical and digital materials for the collection by identifying the most appropriate vendor, selecting desired materials on vendors' websites, loading files of order information into Integrated Library System (ILS), and sending order information from ILS to vendors' servers.
- Identifies appropriate materials for the collection by gaining a full understanding of the Library District's collection philosophy, overall collection and branch holdings, the unique requirements of local communities, researching trends in publishing and material availability, and developing a profile for orders that will address the needs.
- Attends webinars, conferences and local meetings of peers to share trends and practices in library collections.
- Monitors and makes decisions within the allotted budget for their collection area, and reports budget issues to the department manager.
- Responds to patron requests for collection purchases.
30% COLLECTION MAINTENANCE
- Organizes the collection by determining the usefulness of materials, making decisions for their removal from the collection, and mentoring branch employees on collection maintenance practices, to present an attractive, organized and updated collection.
- Reviews weeding lists, hold ratio reports, deleted title reports, and digital title expiration reports to determine if titles should be added or removed from the collection.
- Works closely with library staff to make data driven decisions about collection adjustments.
- Meets regularly with library staff to review collection materials on site and answer questions regarding merchandising and organizing materials.
25% PROJECTS/OPERATIONS/COMMUNICATION
- Work closely with Department Manager and other departments on projects involving collection materials.
- Serve on cross-functional project teams as needed.
- Communicates timely information to staff using digital platforms.
- Attends library staff meetings as able to share collection related updates.
15% COLLECTION PROMOTION
- Work closely with other departments to promote materials to patrons.
- Create promotional resources using the organization's website and other resources.
Performs other related duties and may contribute to cross-functional initiatives and projects as assigned and requested.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Master's degree in the library and information studies field or the ability to obtain a master's degree in the library and information studies field within three years from the start of the program. An application to the library school must be made within six months of the date of hire.
- Two to five years of collection development experience.
- Ability to travel to other work/library locations, as needed.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Advanced technology skills for Microsoft 365 (Word, Excel, Outlook) and familiarity with Microsoft Edge and Microsoft Teams, and an ability to learn and apply new technologies.
- Considerable knowledge of materials selection and collection development principles; collection assessment and evaluation techniques; publishing trends; and current recreational and information needs of the public.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external customers.
- Ability to comfortably present information in a clear and engaging manner in dealing with customers and colleagues one-on-one or in groups, in both formal and informal settings.
- Ability to exercise confidence and excitement in the vast technological and online resources the Library District has available.
- Respond to change with a positive attitude and a willingness to learn new processes.
- Ability to successfully work with varying demographics.

- Intermediate skills in Sierra.
- Intermediate skills in collection weeding.
- This is a hybrid work position with the flexibility to work from home or where needed within the state of Colorado. However, there will be occasions where in-office attendance is required to align with team activities or organization events.
- The essential duties for this position are performed in an indoor office environment.
- Moderate noise (computers, phones, printers, AMH sorter operation, and staff interactions).
- Ability to work in confined areas.
- Travel to various Library District locations as needed.
- Flexibility in work location, including some opportunities to work remotely.
