Under general supervision, the librarian will manage collections and programs for WMCL, provide reference and readers’ advisory services, and develop community partnerships.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree required.
  • 2 years of library experience or equivalent education/experience.
  • MLS from an ALA-accredited program preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Provide professional assistance to patrons in locating and using information resources.
  • Deliver reference, research, and readers’ advisory services.
  • Develop, coordinate, and promote programs and outreach with schools and community groups.
  • Manage library collections across print, media, and digital formats.
  • Create instructional materials, bibliographies, guides, and displays.
  • Collect and analyze data to support library reports and decisions.
  • Assist in training and supporting staff and volunteers.
  • Maintain a safe and welcoming environment and enforce library policies.
  • Oversee branch operations in the absence of the Branch Manager, with cross-departmental support.
  • Develop and deliver youth programming for children’s services and activities.

Job description

Minimum Starting Salary: $23.5281 hourly- Depending on Qualifications

Must be able to work days, evenings, and weekends, including Sunday afternoons.

Job Summary

Under general supervision, performs professional-level librarian duties, utilizing current technology and traditional resources to meet the informational, instructional, educational, and recreational needs of the community; manages assigned library collections and programs for the Waco-McLennan County Library (WMCL)


Qualifications


  • Bachelor's Degree

  • 2 years of library experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience


Preferred


  • An MLS from an ALA-accredited program


Essential Functions


  • Provides professional assistance to patrons, helping them identify, locate, access, and use information resources effectively.

  • Delivers reference, research, and readers’ advisory services.

  • Develops, coordinates, and promotes programs, training sessions, and outreach initiatives, including partnerships with schools, community groups, and special events.

  • Manages library collections across print, media, and digital formats by evaluating, selecting, and weeding materials to ensure accuracy, relevance, and community alignment.

  • Creates instructional and promotional materials, including bibliographies, research guides, and displays.

  • Collects and analyzes data to support reports on library operations and activities.

  • Assists in training and supporting staff and volunteers.

  • Maintains a safe and welcoming environment and ensures patrons comply with library policies.

  • Oversees branch operations in the absence of the Branch Manager and provide cross-departmental support as needed.

  • Ensure accuracy and accessibility of catalog and database records and provide basic circulation services when required.

  • May occasionally travel to various City facilities as needed to attend meetings, coordinate with teams, and support ongoing initiatives.

  • Librarian serving in a youth services role: Develops, coordinates, and delivers children’s programming, including story times and educational and recreational activities; addresses the educational, informational, and recreational needs of children; manages youth services programs; and recommends plans, programs, policies, and service improvements for the WMCL Children’s Department.
