Job summary

Maricopa County Library District is seeking a Librarian at the Litchfield Park Library to enrich lives through youth-focused programs and services. You will engage with children aged 0-11, conduct story times and school-age activities, and partner with community organizations to promote literacy.

The role emphasizes effective communication, customer service, teamwork, and ongoing learning within a dynamic, diverse community in a growing area at the new Litchfield Park Library.

Responsibilities

• Plan and present library programming for youth 0-11, including story times and school-age programs.
• Provide reference and reader advisory services and respond to customer inquiries.

• Assist with collection evaluation and liaison with central selectors.

Salary offers are based on the candidate's equivalent experience and internal equity with other employees within the same job classification. This position is not eligible for overtime compensation.

We Require

• Master's degree in Library Science from an American Library Association (ALA) accredited school

OR

• Currently enrolled in a master's degree program in library science from an American Library Association (ALA) accredited school and are within one month of your anticipated graduation date

Job Contributions

• Plan and present library programming and conduct group tours, school visits, and community outreach

• Provide reference and reader advisory services and respond to customer concerns in person, on the telephone, and online

• Facilitate public reading programs and initiatives, and compile and report library statistics

• Evaluate and cull the collection and serve as a local liaison to the central selectors for library materials

• Oversee advisory groups, coordinate volunteer assignments, and serve in a lead role as appropriate

• Prepare book displays, create posters, bibliographies, bookmarks, bulletin boards, games, and promotional displays

• Instruct library patrons on the use of PCs, the online catalog, various databases, and the Internet

• Serve on standing and/or ad-hoc committees

Working Conditions

• Position is typically office or administrative work and is not substantially exposed to adverse environmental conditions

• Ability to exert up to 20 lbs. occasionally, 10 lbs. frequently, or negligible amounts constantly, and requires walking/standing to a significant degree
