The Martha Cooper Library is hiring a part-time Library Associate! In addition to working on desk and supporting daily functions at the library, this employee will collaborate with the Adult Services Librarian to assist with programming and collection management. The ideal candidate will have an interest in collections management, including materials evaluation, space maintenance, and ensuring collections are responsive to the branch user base; an interest in providing and evaluating adult programming; and a passion for working with a diverse community at a busy, centrally located library.
This position requires the ability to report to, and travel between, assigned library locations during the workday within a reasonable timeframe.
Essential Functions:
- Evaluates branch compliance with applicable federal, state, County, and related laws, rules, and regulations;
- Prepares and presents evidence-based educational programs and outreach services aligned with the department's strategic directions and core values;
- Coordinates and participates in internal and external services such as accounting, payroll, IT, scheduling, personnel, outreach, and library programming;
- Supervises, schedules, and trains volunteers, and assumes temporary supervisory responsibility in the absence of senior staff;
- Utilizes conflict management skills to de-escalate and address unexpected problems or potentially volatile situations, completing associated documentation;
- Provides customer service to diverse members of the public including vulnerable individuals and non-English speakers;
- Assists professional staff with collection maintenance, material selection, and bibliographic research following professional standards;
- Participates in committee meetings and continuing education to incorporate current best practices in children's, youth, or adult services;
- Assists in creating schedules, preparing reports, maintaining records, managing inventories, processing ILL requests, resolving invoice discrepancies, and handling money transactions;
- Coordinates unit activity with other departmental units, County departments, and outside agencies;
- Creates and maintains databases, compiles and analyzes data, and produces reports using automated information systems;
- Manages library social media accounts and communicates updates to the public.
Minimum Qualifications:
- High school diploma or General Education Development (GED) certificate AND three years of customer service experience assisting the public. (Relevant experience and/or education from an accredited college or university may be substituted.)
- OR:
- One year with Pima County in a Library Technical Assistant or closely related position as determined by the department head at the time of recruitment.
Preferred Qualifications :
- Minimum one (1) year of library experience.
- Experience using an integrated library system (ILS), such as Sierra, Polaris, SirsiDynix, Millenium, Alma, Symphony, Horizon, Carl, and/or Apollo.
- Minimum two (2) years of technology experience (email, eBooks, Microsoft Office, personal electronic devices such as tablets, cell phones, e-readers, library website, Google forms or docs).
- Minimum one (1) year of experience preparing or presenting educational programs or outreach services.
- Experience training staff or volunteers.
- Bilingual (English/Spanish - speaking, reading, writing).
