Job description

SUMMARY

Reporting to the Sr. Director, Library & Information Technology, the Librarian is focused on providing high quality support for students and faculty for library services, research and information literacy. Through collaborative working relationships across the college, this position joins the Library & Information Technology team to promote high library standards and ensure the effective coordination of services with the rest of the college.

The primary focus of this position is student and faculty engagement, and this role will also support collection management and day to day operations of library services at CCAD.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include but are not limited to the following:

Planning and Library Administration:

  • Contribute to the creation of the vision and service model for Packard Library in support of student success at CCAD; Assist with setting departmental goals and objectives
  • Collaborate with library staff and other departments and offices in order to reinforce the library's position as an integral academic support service
  • Set policies and procedures in accordance with library mission
  • Evaluate space needs for library and student services and recommend space adjustments as appropriate
  • Keep records and compile reports in order to evaluate and refine library activities
  • Lead, direct the work, and supervise a team of student workers who carry out inventory and circulation responsibilities for the Library
  • Drive service quality and innovation through creative use of available technology in support of library operations

Teaching Support and Programming:

  • In collaboration with the Senior Director, create and maintain an outreach program that is thoughtful, consistent, and regularly brings new and forward-thinking ideas to faculty about information resources and services in the teaching and learning process
  • Partner with academic leadership, faculty and students to provide relevant instruction and support in a proactive manner
  • Provide general and virtual information, research, and reference services and create content to support academic instruction
  • Actively identify possible points of collaboration with other areas within Library & Information Technology and other stakeholders across campus in coordination with the Senior Director

Resource Management (Collections, electronic resources, etc):

  • Manage and maintain physical collection, electronic resources, and systems, following academic and technological trends
  • Provide responsive customer service and reference services at the circulation desk or virtually
  • Act as the Library's liaison with publishers and vendors to acquire print books, eBooks, serials, media, and other non-licensed materials and open educational resources
  • Oversee processing of physical materials for circulation, checks in new materials, and accounts for and registers gifts in ILS
  • Perform copy and original cataloging and classification of materials in all formats
  • Review and implement new cataloging standards and workflows as technologies change
  • Coordinate development and deaccessioning of collection and carry out an annual inventory of the collection in conjunction with other library staff

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Subject knowledge in the field of art and design
  • Background negotiating with vendors and publishers
  • Demonstrated knowledge of cataloging standards and practices

EDUCATION and EXPERIENCE

  • A bachelor's degree and a minimum of 2 years working in Library, Instructional Technology or Information Literacy is required.
  • Experience working as a librarian is required.
  • Experience at smaller colleges or universities who understand the demands of a working librarian is preferred.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

  • The employee is regularly required to sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
  • The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

  • The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet.
  • While performing the job duties, the employee is occasionally exposed to outside weather conditions.
