Position Liability Supervisor
Description
Vanguard Claims Administration, LLC (VCA) is seeking an experienced Liability Examiner Supervisor to join our team. This leadership position is responsible for overseeing the investigation, evaluation, and resolution of complex liability and construction defect claims, including claims involving litigation, arbitration, and settlement negotiations.
The ideal candidate is an experienced liability claims professional who can provide strong technical guidance, effectively lead and develop a team, manage complex claim matters, and build trusted relationships with clients, attorneys, and other stakeholders.
What You’ll Do
Claims Oversight & Management
- Supervise the handling of complex liability and general liability claims across both personal and commercial lines, including construction defect claims, from inception through resolution.
- Provide technical direction on investigations, liability exposure, coverage issues, responsible parties, fraud indicators, and claim strategy.
- Review complex coverage issues, policy interpretations, contracts, and claims involving multiple parties, policy years, and coverage considerations.
- Participate in complex litigation and arbitration and coordinate claim strategy with legal counsel as appropriate.
- Review and approve settlement recommendations and negotiate resolutions within established authority levels.
- Review and approve detailed claim reports and recommendations to ensure accuracy, clarity, and compliance with client service-level expectations.
- Monitor legal expenses, reserves, and financial transactions to ensure appropriate documentation and fiscal accountability.
- Conduct regular claim file reviews to ensure quality, consistency, and compliance with company and client requirements.
- Ensure claims are handled in accordance with applicable legal, regulatory, contractual, and client-specific requirements.
- Collaborate with management on team performance reporting, claim quality metrics, and SLA compliance.
Leadership & Team Development
- Provide day-to-day supervision, technical guidance, and performance feedback to liability examiners and claims staff.
- Mentor and support the professional development of team members through coaching, training, and ongoing development initiatives.
- Identify opportunities to improve processes, workflows, and claim-handling practices.
- Assist with the implementation of corrective actions and process improvements.
- Promote a culture of accountability, collaboration, quality, and exceptional client service.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Client & Stakeholder Relationships
- Serve as a key point of contact for clients, legal counsel, and other stakeholders regarding complex claim matters.
- Provide timely, professional, and transparent communication regarding claim status, exposure, strategy, and resolution.
- Represent the company at mediations, arbitrations, depositions, and trials as needed.
- Build and maintain strong client relationships through responsive communication and high-quality claim service.
SOC 2 & Information Security Responsibilities
As a SOC 2-compliant organization, VCA places a high priority on the security, confidentiality, and integrity of client and claimant information. This position will:
- Ensure sensitive claimant, policyholder, client, and company information is handled in accordance with SOC 2 requirements and company security policies.
- Ensure team members follow established protocols for the secure storage, transmission, and processing of confidential information.
- Maintain accurate, complete, and secure claim documentation and system records.
- Promptly report suspected or actual security incidents, policy violations, or compliance concerns to management.
- Lead by example in completing required security awareness and SOC 2 training.
- Support SOC 2 audit readiness by providing documentation, evidence, and information regarding compliance practices as needed.
Position Requirements
What We’re Looking For
- High School Diploma or equivalent required; Bachelor’s degree preferred.
- 3–5+ years of liability claims experience, with experience handling complex liability, construction defect, and/or litigation claims.
- Strong knowledge of property and casualty insurance, coverage analysis, tort law, and negligence standards.
- Experience handling complex, multi-party litigation and/or construction defect claims.
- Experience with Lloyd’s of London claims is preferred.
- Active state adjuster licenses as required; ability to obtain and maintain applicable licenses.
- Previous supervisory or leadership experience preferred, with demonstrated ability to coach, mentor, and develop team members.
- Strong analytical, organizational, written, and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and a high-volume caseload while maintaining attention to detail and quality.
- Strong decision-making and problem-solving skills.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and claims management systems.
- AIC, CPCU, or other relevant industry designation preferred.
