Job summary

Tundra Technical Solutions is seeking a hands-on Controls Engineer to support commissioning, troubleshooting, safety validation, and production readiness of automated manufacturing equipment in a battery cell production environment.

The ideal candidate will have extensive PLC programming, machine safety validation, electrical troubleshooting, and equipment optimization experience in high-volume manufacturing. On-site role based in Sparks, NV.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical/Controls/Mechatronics or equivalent experience.
• Minimum 5 years hands-on controls engineering in automated manufacturing.
• Experience commissioning servo and motion platforms (Kinetix, Sinamics).
• Experience integrating Cognex and Keyence vision systems.
• Ability to read schematics, P&IDs, and controls documentation.

Responsibilities

• Commission, validate, and support automated manufacturing equipment for battery cell production.
• Develop, modify, troubleshoot, and optimize PLC, PAC, HMI, and SCADA applications.
• Diagnose and resolve controls, automation, electrical, and machine-performance issues on the floor.
• Validate machine safety systems, safety programs, and field devices to standards.
• Support startup, production readiness, and continuous improvement initiatives.
• Collaborate with manufacturing, maintenance, process engineering, and vendors to improve reliability.
• Read electrical schematics, P&IDs and drawings to support changes.
• Conduct root-cause investigations and implement corrective actions.
• Recommend and implement controls and automation upgrades to improve productivity and uptime.
