Position Summary

We are seeking an experienced Radiographic Testing (RT) Level III to lead and oversee all radiographic inspection activities within our accredited aerospace NDT laboratory. This individual will serve as the Level III for Radiographic Testing and provide technical leadership, procedure development, personnel qualification, customer support, and regulatory compliance.


The successful candidate will possess extensive experience performing and supervising radiographic inspection of aerospace castings, weldments, and fabricated components using X-ray and Gamma Radiography techniques while ensuring compliance with customer specifications, NAS-410, ASTM, AWS, ASME, FAA, and Nadcap requirements.


This position plays a critical role in maintaining our reputation for technical excellence, regulatory compliance, and exceptional customer service.


Essential Duties & Responsibilities


  • Serve as the Level III for Radiographic Testing.

  • Develop, approve, revise, and maintain RT procedures and work instructions.

  • Interpret customer specifications and engineering drawings.

  • Provide technical guidance to Level I and Level II inspectors.

  • Review and approve radiographic techniques and technique sheets for optimum image quality and productivity.

  • Establish exposure techniques for complex aerospace components.

  • Perform and oversee radiographic inspection of aerospace investment castings, sand castings, permanent mold castings, weldments, fabricated assemblies, pressure-containing components, and structural components.

  • Work with aluminum, steel, stainless steel, titanium, nickel, and cobalt alloys.

  • Oversee X-ray, Gamma Radiography, Film Radiography, Computed Radiography (CR), and Digital Radiography (DR).

  • Evaluate and interpret radiographs in accordance with applicable ASTM standards, AWS D17.1, ASME Section V, AMS specifications, customer specifications, and prime aerospace specifications.

  • Evaluate indications including shrinkage, porosity, gas holes, hot tears, cold shuts, inclusions, cracks, lack of fusion, lack of penetration, and weld discontinuities.

  • Train, mentor, qualify, and certify RT personnel.

  • Develop written examinations, administer practical examinations, conduct annual vision examinations, and maintain NAS-410 qualification records.

  • Support Nadcap AC7114, FAA Repair Station requirements (if applicable), ISO 9001, AS9100, NAS-410, customer audits, and internal audits.

  • Support corrective actions, root-cause investigations, customer and regulatory audits, and process-improvement initiatives.

  • Serve as a technical resource regarding radiation safety practices, state licensing requirements, dosimetry, source accountability, exposure calculations, controlled areas, and emergency procedures.

  • Coordinate with the Radiation Safety Officer (RSO) as required.

  • Review customer purchase orders, participate in customer technical meetings, assist with quoting unusual inspections, resolve technical inspection issues, and support customer audits.

  • Improve inspection efficiency, reduce repeat exposures, optimize techniques, improve throughput, recommend new equipment, and participate in Lean Manufacturing initiatives.


Physical Requirements

Ability to stand and walk for extended periods, occasionally lift up to 50 pounds, work in industrial and laboratory environments, wear required PPE, and work around radiation-producing equipment while following all safety requirements.


Must have visual acuity sufficient for radiographic interpretation and the ability to distinguish density and contrast variations on radiographic images.

Compensation

In accordance with California law, the anticipated salary range for this position is $85,000-$125,000 annually, depending on qualifications, certifications, experience, and overall experience.

Working knowledge of NAS-410, ASTM E1742, ASTM E1032, ASTM E94, ASTM E747, ASTM E1025, ASTM E1815, ASME Section V, AWS D17.1, Radiation Safety Regulations, Digital Imaging, Film Processing, Image Quality Indicators (IQIs), Geometric Unsharpness Calculations, Exposure Charts, and Technique Development.


Preferred Qualifications


  • Additional Level III certifications in PT, MT, UT, and/or VT

  • FAA Repair Station experience

  • Nadcap Accreditation experience

  • AS9100 Quality Systems experience

  • Aerospace Prime approval experience
