Job Summary

The College of Literature, Science, and the Arts, and the Department of Curriculum Support at the University of Michigan invite applications for an Adjunct Lecturer position at 11.11% effort starting in the Winter term 2027, which involves teaching ALA 285: Post-Baccalaureate Preparation.

This appointment is scheduled to begin on January 1, 2027, with classes beginning on January 13, 2027.

Responsibilities*

Duties of the ALAL 285/Adjunct Lecturer position include teaching, ongoing development of course curriculum, developing course materials, and evaluating and grading students. Responsibilities also include:

• Teach ALA 285 in alignment with GEPP goals and the Center's Student Success Model.
• Develop, refine, and maintain course materials that support graduate education preparation, research development, academic planning, and professional growth.
• Provide instruction, feedback, and mentoring to GEPP students enrolled in the course.
• Coordinate course content with GEPP programming, graduate student mentor support, and related student development activities.
• Assess student learning and maintain instructional records in accordance with university policies.
• Collaborate with the Center and UROP leadership to ensure the course supports students' broader preparation for graduate education, advanced research, and post-baccalaureate pathways.
• Course Title(s): ALA 285: Post-Baccalaureate Preparation.

Course Objectives: This year-long course is designed to help participants of UROP's Advancing Post-Baccalaureate Preparation (APP) program explore and apply to graduate school. In addition to preparing materials and applications, the course will prepare students for the transition to graduate school and how to succeed in a post-baccalaureate environment.

Required Qualifications*

• Master's degree in Higher Education or related field
• 3-5 years' experience working in an academic student setting
• Minimum of two years' experience as instructor-of-record.
• Experience working with a diverse student population and a demonstrated commitment to student retention and success.
• Demonstrated experience with curriculum development, including experience working with faculty.
• Demonstrated experience in conducting research and an understanding of the research process.
• Enthusiasm for working within undergraduate students and demonstrated commitment to meeting their information and research needs.
• Commitment to engaging students in research and scholarly work.

The selection criteria used for this search is based on how the applicant's education and experience meets the required minimum qualifications for the position. Excellence in teaching and instruction will be the principal criteria used to select the successful candidate.

Desired Qualifications*

• Doctoral degree in Higher Education (or related field)
• Expertise in college-level teaching, with demonstrated experience leading interactive and experiential classroom methods (or experience creating, leading, or managing student programming, instruction directly related to undergraduate research).
• Preference will be given to candidates with experience in peer mentoring, academic counseling and advising, and student supervision.
