The College of Literature, Science, and the Arts, and the Department of Afroamerican & African Studies at the University of Michigan invite applications for a LEO Lecturer I position at 33.33% effort for Fall 2025, beginning August 25, 2025, and ending December 31, 2025.

Course Description

Course Title: AAS 254 - The History and Evolution of Hip Hop.

Course Objectives: This course explores the emergence and development of Hip Hop culture over forty years, analyzing its historical context, aesthetic, artistic, and commercial evolution, and its impact on American society. Students will engage with readings, music, films, and other materials, and will be evaluated through writing assignments that interpret Hip Hop's growth stages.

Responsibilities

Teaching, developing course materials, evaluating students, holding office hours, grading assignments, and attending classes and planning meetings. The full teaching load is three courses per semester. The lecturer is responsible for timely grading, providing student feedback, maintaining attendance and grade records, and preparing for classes in advance.

Required Qualifications

A Ph.D. in a relevant discipline is required. Familiarity with graduate-level coursework related to the course subject and evidence of effective teaching, especially working with diverse student backgrounds, are essential. Excellence in teaching will be a key criterion for selection.

Desired Qualifications

Prior teaching experience and demonstrated excellence in undergraduate teaching are preferred. Experience in interactive/intergroup dialogue is a plus.
