Job summary

Florida Legislature in Tallahassee seeks a Legislative Analyst/Attorney to serve as a technical expert for a legislative committee, legislators, and the public. You will research, prepare staff analyses, and develop amendments, reports, and correspondence under supervision.

The role requires deep knowledge of legal terminology, effective communication, and the ability to manage independent research projects and respond to inquiries across stakeholders.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university and three years of professional experience in research, analysis, program planning and evaluation, or administrative work.
• A master’s degree can substitute for one year of the required experience.
• A doctorate can substitute for two years of the required experience.
• Professional experience as described above can substitute on a year-for-year basis for the required college education.

Responsibilities

• Analyze and summarize proposed legislation to determine effectiveness and impact.
• Research and draft legislation and amendments at the direction of the committee chair and legislators.
• Assist in planning committee meetings, including agenda, speakers, and materials.
• Monitor progress of committee legislation through reference and floor actions.
• Brief legislators verbally or in writing on issues for discussion.
