The State of Michigan seeks a Fiscal Analyst to analyze, develop, and present budget issues for the Senate Appropriations Committee. Responsibilities include drafting appropriations analyses, clerking subcommittee meetings, and responding to inquiries on appropriations bills.

Successful candidates will hold a Master’s degree in public policy or related field, with strong quantitative skills and familiarity with budgeting and policy analysis. Office is in Lansing.

Qualifications

• Master’s degree in an appropriate field with strong quantitative public policy analysis.
• Knowledge of child welfare and public assistance programs.
• Familiarity with R statistical modeling software encouraged.
• Excellent writing, research, communication, and detail‑oriented skills.
• Ability to perform objective fiscal policy analysis of State legislation.

Responsibilities

• Become familiar with a budget area(s), budgeting practices, and Senate policies.
• Analyze budget issues, make recommendations, and prepare documents.
• Prepare the fiscal analysis portion of the Agency's bill analysis documents for proposals.
• Testify before Senate committees and subcommittees on fiscal issues.
• Provide staff assistance to assigned Senate subcommittees and staff.
• Periodically update expenditure/revenue forecasts for budget areas.
