The New York State Senate, Budget Analyst position within the Senate Finance Committee, seeks candidates with strong public policy interest to analyze fiscal matters and state budgets across multiple portfolios. The role involves briefing Senators, preparing analyses, and engaging with advocacy groups during the legislative session.

Required are a Master’s degree or near completion in a relevant field and excellent writing and analytical skills.

Qualifications

• Candidates must have a demonstrated interest in public policy and a Master’s Degree (or near completion) in Economics, Public Policy, Public Administration, Law, Political Science, or a related field and/or a Doctorate (or near completion).
• Strong writing, quantitative, analytical, and computer skills are required.
• Ability to analyze budget requests and fiscal practices; attention to detail; flexible hours including nights/weekends during session.

Responsabilités

• Conducting and reporting on state budget negotiations in assigned issue areas.
• Reviewing and summarizing the Executive Budget proposal and other legislation.
• Editing correspondence, research literature, and memoranda related to budget matters.
• Briefing Senators and senior staff on budgetary progress.
• Presenting analyses of policies and legislation to senior staff and Senators.
• Preparing written reviews and analyses of State budget and other legislation with fiscal implications.
• Meeting with advocacy and constituency groups.
