Office of the Tennessee Comptroller of the Treasury in Mid-east Tennessee seeks a Legislative Auditor to evaluate local government operations and ensure accountability across public funds. The role conducts external audits, reviews records and statements, and reports findings with clarity to auditees and officials.

Travel is required within the region, with a strong emphasis on professional standards and teamwork.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Business Administration with at least 24 semester hours in accounting.

Responsibilities

• Conduct audits of state and local governmental entities in accordance with professional auditing standards.
• Examine and review records, reports, financial statements, and management practices.

• Produce clear, well-supported workpapers and data analyses.
• Communicate findings effectively with auditees, coworkers, officials, and stakeholders.

Legislative Auditor: Mid-east Tennessee

Location: Mid-east Tennessee (Putnam, Cumberland, White, Van Buren, Bledsoe, and Warren counties)

What You’ll Do

What We’re Looking For

Required:

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Business Administration with at least 24 semester hours in accounting

Preferred:

• Certified Public Accountant (CPA) license (not required but strongly encouraged for advancement)
• Experience in auditing, governmental accounting, or related fields

Logistics

Travel: For Local Government Auditors, travel is required but is generally confined to same day commutes to and from a job site. Overnight stays may be required, as necessary.
