Job summary

Legislative Auditor: Mid-east Tennessee with the Tennessee Comptroller of the Treasury seeks a detail‑oriented auditor to conduct external audits of state and local governments in the Mid-east region. You will assess records and financial statements, internal controls, and management practices to ensure accountability and transparency.

You will communicate findings clearly to auditees and stakeholders, and work collaboratively to drive improvements.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Business Administration with at least 24 semester hours in accounting.
• Ability to learn quickly, think critically, problem solve, and produce accurate work.
• Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
• Clear written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to work tactfully with coworkers, auditees, and stakeholders.
• Sound judgment in evaluating situations and making decisions.

Responsibilities

• Produce clear, logical, and well-supported workpapers and data analyses.

Legislative Auditor: Mid-east Tennessee

Location: Mid-east Tennessee (Putnam, Cumberland, White, Van Buren, Bledsoe, and Warren counties)

Role Snapshot

This position conducts external audits for local government entities in the Mid-east Tennessee region, ensuring accountability, transparency, and effective operations across publicly funded organizations. Responsibilities may include examining and reviewing records, reports, financial statements, and management practices for state and local government entities and other organizations receiving public funds.

What We're Looking For

Required:

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Business Administration with at least 24 semester hours in accounting

Preferred:

• Certified Public Accountant (CPA) license (not required but strongly encouraged for advancement)
• Experience in auditing, governmental accounting, or related fields

Logistics

Travel: For Local Government Auditors, travel is required but is generally confined to same day commutes to and from a job site. Overnight stays may be required, as necessary.
