Job summary

Service Experts is seeking an experienced Legal Counsel IV to join our in-house team reporting to the VP - General Counsel. The role provides a broad in-house practice supporting daily operations and long-term goals, including collaboration with internal stakeholders and outside counsel.

The successful candidate will handle transactional matters, employment law, and dispute resolution with a practical, business-minded approach.

Qualifications

• Juris Doctor from an accredited law school and licensed in good standing.
• At least six years of relevant legal experience in a law firm or in-house.
• Strong drafting, negotiation, and interpersonal communication skills.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
• Practical, business-minded approach to legal risk assessment and problem-solving.

Responsibilities

• Handle transactional matters: construction contracts, real estate leases, asset purchases, software licenses, marketing agreements, NDAs.
• Lead employment-law tasks: investigations, handbook drafting/enforcement, background checks, payroll practices, leaves.
• Oversee outside counsel and manage active litigation matters; provide guidance to internal stakeholders.

Position Summary: Reporting to the company’s Vice President - General Counsel, this role offers the opportunity to work in a broad-based, in-house legal position that supports the business’s daily operations and long-term goals. The successful candidate will provide legal guidance across a variety of practice areas, working closely with colleagues in the legal department, internal stakeholders in other departments, and outside legal counsel.

Key Responsibilities:

The Legal Counsel IV is expected to possess at least six years of experience handling a combination of the following matters:

Transactional Work:

• Construction contracts;
• Real estate leases;
• Asset purchase agreements;
• Software licensing agreements;
• Marketing agreements; and
• Non-disclosure agreements

Employment Law:

• Employee misconduct investigations;
• Employee handbook drafting and enforcement;
• Background checks and payroll practices; and
• Leave requests and workplace accommodation

Dispute Resolution and Litigation Management:

• Resolve pre-litigation claims brought by customers, business partners, and former employees;
• Oversee and manage outside legal counsel in active litigation matters

Required Qualifications:

• Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school
• Licensed and in good standing in at least one U.S. jurisdiction
• At least six years of relevant legal experience in a law firm or in-house legal department
• Strong drafting, negotiation, and interpersonal communication skills
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment
• Practical, business-minded approach to legal risk-assessment and problem-solving
