Job Description
About the Role:
The Legal Assistant plays a crucial role on the Litigation Team in the Plano Office by performing a variety of tasks to support attorneys representing corporate clients in a fast-paced federal court litigation practice.
Minimum Qualifications:
• Associate's degree or equivalent work experience.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
• Proficiency in computer systems and legal software applications.
• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
Preferred Qualifications:
• Three to five years of experience working in a law firm or legal department.
• Familiarity with legal terminology and procedures.
• Working knowledge of Tabs, Carpe Diem, and iManage.
• Familiarity with federal court systems.
Responsibilities:
• Prepare drafts of legal documents, including pleadings, discovery requests and responses, motions, orders, documents for production and draft correspondence to counsel and courts.
• Work with documents in PDF format and edit PDF documents.
• File documents in federal and state courts.
• Calendar deadlines and ensure compliance with deadlines.
• Maintain and organize case files in i-Manage, ensuring all documents are up-to-date and accessible.
• Communicate with clients and court personnel to facilitate case progress.
• Assist attorneys in trial preparation, including organizing exhibits and preparing trial binders.
• Manage calendars, schedule appointments, and coordinate meetings.
Skills:
The required skills, such as proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, are utilized daily to create and manage documents, spreadsheets, and presentations that support legal cases. Strong organizational skills are essential for maintaining case files and ensuring that all deadlines are met, which is critical in the fast-paced litigation environment. Attention to detail is paramount when preparing legal documents, as even minor errors can have significant consequences. Preferred skills, such as familiarity with legal terminology, enhance the Legal Assistant's ability to communicate effectively with attorneys, ensuring clarity and understanding.
