Job summary

EvenUp seeks a Practice Innovation Counsel to help build the drafting systems behind our AI-generated work product. You will translate legal judgment into product requirements and collaborate with Product, Data Science, and ML teams to define structured, executable guidance.

You will maintain knowledge bases, mentor on evolving standards, and serve as the internal legal expert across the company. This is a hybrid role with SF office expectation.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of substantive legal experience across multiple states focusing on personal injury or related practice areas.
• Ability to distill complex legal reasoning into clear, actionable guidance for engineers, product managers and data scientists.
• Exceptional legal drafting skills with a track record of producing complex documents.
• Ability to translate legal judgement into product requirements for non-lawyers.
• Working fluency with large language models and practical experience using them in substantive work.
• Curiosity and comfort with ambiguity; you will define parts of this new function as you go.

Responsibilities

• Build the drafting systems behind our AI-generated work product by mapping expert reasoning into explicit decision trees.
• Develop mastery in unfamiliar practice areas on short timelines and become internal authority.
• Translate legal judgement into product requirements with Product, Data Science and ML teams.
• Maintain and expand knowledge bases and templates with firm and state-level customization.
• Conduct legal research on liability and damages nationwide and monitor changes.
• Lead quality assurance through audits, benchmarking, and evaluation development.
• Work directly with clients when needed to gather requirements and explain document construction.
• Serve as an in-house legal expert for teams across the company.
