Job summary

New Jersey Institute of Technology in Newark, NJ seeks a Leave & Benefits Specialist to administer leave programs, health and retirement benefits, and related state plans under the Director of Benefits.

You will ensure FMLA/NJFLA compliance, coordinate medical leaves, maintain confidential records, conduct benefits orientations, and support enrollment changes and data entry in Workday and state portals.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in HR-related field.
• 1–2 years of dedicated professional experience administering employee benefits and leave programs.
• Strong knowledge of FMLA and NJFLA regulations and administration workflows.
• Proficiency with HRIS systems and standard office productivity suites (MS Office).

Responsibilities

• Administer FMLA/NJFLA/NJFLI/TDI and related leave programs.
• Coordinate medical leaves and return-to-work processes with employees and supervisors.
• Maintain confidential leave records and ensure deadlines.
• Serve as liaison for Workers' Compensation and restricted duty scenarios.
• Assist in health, retirement and voluntary benefits inquiries and enrollments.
• Process life events, enrollment changes and retirement applications.
• Design and deliver benefits orientation sessions for new hires.
• Provide high-quality employee support and answered questions on plans and claims.
• Organize Open Enrollment and health fairs; manage data in HRIS and state portals.
• Audit benefit vendor invoices and retirement reporting for accuracy.
• Stay current on federal/state benefit legislation and update practices.
