Job summary

New Jersey Institute of Technology (NJIT) is seeking a Leave & Benefits Specialist to manage FMLA, NJFLA, NJFLI, and TDI programs, ensuring compliant processing of leaves and benefits for faculty and staff in Newark.You will handle enrollment changes, onboarding, and inquiries while coordinating with HR, payroll, and supervisors. A 1–2 year background in benefits administration is preferred.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent education/experience in HR.
• Proficiency with HRIS databases (Workday, Banner) and MS Office.
• 1–2 years' experience in benefits or leave administration.

Responsibilities

• Administer FMLA/NJFLA/NJFLI/TDI programs end-to-end.
• Coordinate medical leaves and return-to-work with stakeholders.
• Maintain confidential leave records and notices within deadlines.
• Liaise on Workers' Compensation and restricted duty.
• Assist with health, retirement and voluntary benefits questions.
• Process life events, open enrollment, terminations, retirements.
• Design and conduct benefits orientation sessions.
• Serve as first point of contact for benefit inquiries.
• Support annual open enrollment and health fairs.
• Input and reconcile data across HRIS and state portals.
• Audit vendor invoices and retirement reporting for accuracy.
• Stay current with evolving benefit legislation.
