Job Summary

Compensation Type: Hourly — $18.00 per hour. The Learning Support Specialist II (LSSII) performs tutoring duties in their subject area of academic expertise, working in‑person with students one‑on‑one or in small groups. The role supports student mastery of course material through effective learning and critical‑thinking strategies and provides programmatic support across the tutoring center.

Responsibilities

• Deliver in‑person tutoring sessions, adapting strategies to individual or small group student needs.
• Maintain accurate documentation of all tutoring sessions in the college’s tutoring and record‑keeping software.
• Generate and submit progress reports via the tutoring software to the supervisor.
• Co‑operate with tutoring administration, staff, and fellow tutors to develop instructional materials and effective tutoring strategies.
• Assist in the training and mentoring of Peer Learning Success Leaders and new LSSIIs.
• Participate in promotion, outreach events, and daily operations of the Tutoring Center as needed.
• Stay current on subject‑area concepts, instructional methodologies, and university policies; attend regular tutor training and professional development sessions.
• Provide technical support for tutoring software and report generation.

Minimum Qualifications

• Master’s degree in a related field.
• Native or near‑native proficiency in Spanish.
• One (1) year of teaching and/or tutoring experience in Spanish.
• State Motor Vehicle Operator’s Licence or demonstrable ability to obtain one.
• Ability to commit to a part‑time schedule of approximately 20 hours per week.
