Job summary

Compensation

Job Summary

The Learning Support Specialist II (LSS II) performs duties of a professional tutor in their area(s) of academic expertise and experience. The LSS II tutors in-person in individual or small group settings, helping students attain deeper understanding of assigned subject matter, develop effective learning skills, and cultivate critical thinking.

Responsibilities
  • Provide in-person tutoring to students individually or in small groups, using a variety of teaching methods.
  • Maintain documentation of all tutoring sessions and generate reports from the college’s tutoring software; communicate progress to supervisors.
  • Assist in training and mentoring of newer LSS IIs, Peer Learning Success Leaders, and other peer tutors; collaborate with tutoring staff and administration to develop tutoring strategies and materials.
  • Participate in outreach and promotional events and support daily operations of the Tutoring Center.
  • Maintain current knowledge of subject matter and instructional methodologies; attend training sessions and professional development activities; provide technical support for tutoring software.
  • Foster a supportive, inclusive, and respectful learning environment for students, staff, and community members.
Qualifications
  • Master’s degree in a related field.
  • At least one year of teaching or tutoring experience in an educational setting.
  • Strong public speaking or presentation skills.
  • State motor vehicle operator’s license, or demonstrable ability to obtain one.
  • Combination of education, training, coursework, and experience may qualify a candidate.
Employment Type

Part‑time (40 hours per week)
