Job summary

The Academic Support Program for Student-Athletes at UNC Chapel Hill seeks a Learning Specialist to provide one-on-one and small group instruction in reading, writing, and learning strategies to student-athletes across all sports. The role sits within Undergraduate Education in the College of Arts and Sciences, with supervision by the Director.

Evening and weekend work is required; some travel may be expected.

Qualifications

• Post-baccalaureate degree or equivalent with 3+ years related tutoring/educational activities.
• Knowledge of undergraduate student retention and issues related to student-athletes’ academic progress.
• Experience with diverse student populations.
• Nightly and weekend work required, all year round.
• Demonstrated ability to collaborate with staff and colleagues.

Responsibilities

• Deliver one-on-one and small group instruction in reading, writing, and learning strategies to student-athletes.
• Develop academic programming and materials for student-athletes struggling to meet academic standards.
• Collaborate with Learning Specialists to support student-athletes with Learning Disabilities/ADHD.
