Job description

Position Overview

ECU Department of Student Development is currently seeking several Assistant Learning Specialists to support the Student‑Athlete Academic Services learning specialists in providing academic support services to student‑athletes. This position requires a semester‑long commitment and may consist of daytime and/or evening hours. In this role the specialist will aid student‑athletes in developing academic skills to become independent learners. Skill areas may include reading, writing, time management, organizational skills, note‑taking, and test preparation. The specialist also facilitates accountability by overseeing students' completion of tasks.

Responsibilities
  • Work with the learning specialists to plan sessions and identify students' strengths and weaknesses.
  • Collaborate with other Academic Services staff in strategy and management of student‑athlete academic support and academic progress.
  • Assist students with task completion and skill building during assigned sessions.
  • Complete initial and ongoing training with learning specialists on best practices for supporting at‑risk students including students with education‑impacting disabilities.
  • Provide detailed, accurate and timely communication on progress of assigned caseload using defined reporting procedures.
  • Commit to work at designated times.
  • Complete all job duties while adhering to academic and professional integrity.
  • Maintain confidentiality.
  • Demonstrate a high level of accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications

Compensation

Undergraduate students: $13.50 per hour; Graduate students: $16.50 per hour.
