Job summary

James Hardie offers a 12-week paid internship in Chicago designed to give hands-on experience across learning and development. You will work on an end-to-end ADDIE project, supporting leadership initiatives and the Lead@Hardie program, while collaborating with HR and business partners.

You’ll also build practical capability in instructional design, content development, and program evaluation, with mentorship and opportunities for growth within the AZEK Group family.

Qualifications

  • Currently enrolled in a bachelor’s degree program in a relevant discipline with anticipated graduation between Dec 2027 and May 2029.
  • Minimum GPA of 3.0.
  • Available to work full-time for 12 weeks during summer 2027.
  • Authorized to work in the United States.

Responsibilities

  • Complete an end-to-end learning project using the ADDIE framework: analysis, design, development, implementation, evaluation.
  • Support scaling, coordination, and delivery of Lead@Hardie, including materials and logistics.
  • Progressively take ownership of facilitation opportunities with coaching and feedback.
  • Support learning needs analysis, content development, instructional design, and evaluation across leadership and employee development initiatives.
  • Contribute to Grow@Hardie planning, session development, stakeholder coordination, and event planning.
  • Analyze participant feedback and learning data to identify trends and improvements.
  • Partner with HR, business leaders, facilitators, and SMEs to support learning initiatives.
  • Assist with leadership development and talent initiatives.

Summary

As a James Hardie intern, you will gain hands-on experience in your chosen field while contributing to meaningful projects that drive business results. Our 12-week paid internship program is designed to provide real-world industry exposure, strengthen your professional and technical skills, and help prepare you for a successful career. Throughout the program, you will collaborate with experienced professionals, build valuable relationships across the organization, and take on work that makes a measurable impact. You will also have access to mentoring opportunities and professional development resources to support your growth and career aspirations.

Internship Objective

Provide hands-on experience across the full learning and development lifecycle while contributing to high-impact leadership development initiatives. The intern will build practical capability in instructional design, facilitation, program management, stakeholder partnership, and evaluation by working through the ADDIE process on an assigned learning project. They will also contribute to the continued scaling and delivery of Lead@Hardie, our flagship leadership development program, and gain exposure to the planning of Grow@Hardie and other enterprise development initiatives.

What You’ll Do:

The intern will complete an end-to-end learning project using the ADDIE framework. Beginning with a defined business or learning need, they will conduct analysis, develop learning objectives and an instructional approach, create supporting content/materials, implement or pilot the solution, and evaluate its effectiveness. The internship will conclude with a presentation of the solution, results, lessons learned, and recommendations for future iteration or scale.

  • Support the continued scaling, coordination, and delivery of Lead@Hardie, including program materials, participant experience, communications, logistics, and evaluation.
  • Complete an assigned learning project using the full ADDIE methodology: analysis, design, development, implementation, and evaluation.
  • Participate in and progressively take ownership of facilitation opportunities, with coaching and feedback provided throughout the internship.
  • Support learning needs analysis, content development, instructional design, and evaluation across leadership and employee development initiatives.
  • Contribute to planning for Grow@Hardie, including session development, stakeholder coordination, communications, and event/program planning.
  • Analyze participant feedback and learning data to identify trends, measure effectiveness, and recommend program improvements.
  • Partner with HR, business leaders, facilitators, and subject matter experts to support learning initiatives and build exposure to enterprise L&D work.
  • Assist with additional leadership development and talent initiatives based on business priorities.
What You’ll Bring:
  • Currently enrolled in a bachelor's degree program in a relevant discipline at an accredited university, with an anticipated graduation date between December 2027 and May 2029 (rising junior or rising senior).
  • Strong academic performance with a minimum GPA of 3.0.
  • Available to work full-time for 12 weeks during summer 2027.
  • Reliable transportation to and from the work location.
  • Authorization to work in the United States.
Preferred Skills
  • Target majors: Human Resources, Learning & Development, Organizational Development, Talent Development, Organizational Leadership, and Industrial/Organizational Psychology, Adult Education, Communications, Business Administration, or Psychology with a focus on training, leadership development, or employee development
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, particularly PowerPoint and Excel. Coursework or experience in instructional design, adult learning, HR, organizational development, education, communications, or a related field preferred.

What You’ll Receive:

As of the date of this posting, a good faith estimate of the current pay scale for this position is $20 to $25 per hour. Placement in the range depends on several factors such as experience, skills, geography and may change over time.
