Job summary

The Ohio State University is seeking Learn-to-Swim Instructors for the McCorkle Aquatic Pavilion and RPAC Natatorium. Responsibilities include teaching group and private lessons for all ages, emphasizing water safety. Classes run Sundays 10:30am-5:00pm; flexible, rewarding, on-campus role with potential to earn merit increases.

Position is temporary (fixed term). Training is provided; background checks and CPR/First Aid certification are required within specified timelines.

Qualifications

• Experience in teaching group and/or private swimming lessons.
• Complete the new hire evaluation.
• Regularly attend and participate in meetings, in-service trainings, and skills checks.

Responsibilities

• Responsible for the safety and care of students during specified class times.
• Ensure adherence to American Red Cross Instructor guidelines.
• Demonstrate a comprehensive knowledge of, and comply with, the facility rules, and policies and procedures, and consistently and appropriately enforce them as outlined in the Aquatic Staff Manual.
• Develop safe, progressional, and age-appropriate lessons for group and private classes.
• Prepare individual lesson plans and collaborate and plan with co-instructors when assigned shared classes.
• Manage participant behavior in accordance with program guidelines.
• Complete administrative duties such as submitting program paperwork in a timely manner and maintaining attendance sheets.
• Communicate with swim parents (or adult participants) to provide feedback about swimmer progress.
• Assist with strategic planning for the program and attend regular staff training sessions and meetings.
• Consistently project a positive, professional image and always provide consistent high quality customer service.
• Keep up to date with staff correspondence and updates.
• Consistently demonstrate positive, effective communication skills.
• Perform other duties and tasks as assigned.
