Job summary

Universal Logistics in Cloverdale, VA is seeking an Industrial/Manufacturing Engineer to analyze workflows, drive process improvements, and optimize material flow across production support and warehousing. You will develop standard work, track metrics, and implement corrective actions to elevate safety, quality, and productivity.

The role requires 1–5 years in engineering or logistics, with a strong background in Lean/Six Sigma and data-driven problem solving.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Industrial Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Supply Chain, or related field.
• 1-5 years of engineering, manufacturing, warehousing, logistics, or process improvement experience.
• Experience in automotive, manufacturing, distribution, or logistics environments preferred.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with data-driven approach.
• Experience with Lean, Six Sigma, Kaizen, or similar methodologies.
• Experience creating process documentation, work instructions, and process flow maps.
• Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities in a fast-paced environment.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; cross-functional collaboration.
• Proficiency in Excel, PowerPoint, and other MS Office tools.
• Experience with WMS, ERP, or operational reporting tools preferred.
• Flexibility to support operations outside standard business hours if needed.

Responsibilities

• Analyze operational workflows, production support processes, and material flow activities to identify improvement opportunities.
• Develop and implement process improvements focused on safety, quality, productivity, and cost reduction.
• Create and maintain standard work instructions, process documentation, and operating procedures.
• Monitor key operational metrics and utilize data analysis to drive performance improvements.
• Conduct root cause analysis and implement corrective actions for operational and process-related issues.
• Support warehouse layout optimization, inventory flow improvements, and labor utilization initiatives.
• Partner with operations, maintenance, quality, and customer teams to resolve process challenges and improve performance.
• Assist with new program launches, operational expansions, and process integration activities.
• Lead continuous improvement projects utilizing Lean, Six Sigma, and other process improvement methodologies.
• Track and report project results while ensuring initiatives achieve measurable operational benefits.
• Support customer requirements and ensure compliance with company standards and procedures.
• Identify automation and technology opportunities that improve efficiency and service levels.
• Promote a culture of continuous improvement, accountability, and operational excellence.
