Job summary

Federal Signal Corporation seeks a Manufacturing Engineer to design, develop, and continuously improve manufacturing processes ensuring safe, efficient, and quality production. You will align with Design Engineering, Production, Quality, and Maintenance to optimize fit, form, function, cost, and manufacturability while supporting Lean and continuous improvement across facilities.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Manufacturing/Industrial/Mechanical Engineering or related field.
  • 2-5 years of experience in manufacturing or heavy fabrication environment preferred.
  • Experience with Lean manufacturing, continuous improvement, and process optimization.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, specifications, and bills of material.

Responsibilities

  • Determine and develop manufacturing processes, equipment requirements, tooling, and workflows to produce products efficiently while maintaining quality.
  • Collaborate with Design Engineering to improve product designs for manufacturability, cost reduction, and efficiency.
  • Lead and support process improvement initiatives using Lean, Six Sigma, and continuous improvement methodologies.
  • Provide clear documentation, work instructions, and SOPs to support production teams.
  • Train and communicate process changes, new equipment usage, and revised work methods to supervisors and shop personnel.
  • Investigate, evaluate, and recommend new equipment, tooling, or technology to improve safety, capacity, and quality.
  • Process Engineering Change Notices (ECNs) and communicate changes to affected departments.
  • Review and process Engineering Change Requests (ECRs) for safety, quality, cost, and efficiency.
  • Analyze current and proposed processes to improve workplace safety and ergonomics.
  • Support root cause analysis and corrective actions related to production issues and deviations.
  • Partner with Production, Quality, and Maintenance to resolve challenges and reduce downtime.
