KLA Milpitas is seeking a Staff System Design Engineer to lead the architecture, development, and performance delivery of next‑generation X‑ray‑based metrology systems. You will shape product roadmaps, drive technical strategy, and guide cross‑functional teams to production readiness.

The role demands ownership of end‑to‑end system design, error budgeting, and collaboration with hardware, software, and data teams to meet aggressive performance targets.

Qualifications

• PhD in engineering, physics or related field preferred.
• Strong background in system engineering and multidisciplinary product development.
• Experience delivering complex capital equipment from concept to production.

Responsibilities

• Define system architecture and technical strategy for next‑gen X-ray metrology platforms.
• Own system performance planning, modeling, and error budgeting.
• Translate system requirements into detailed subsystems (source, optics, detector, mechatronics, vacuum, thermal, controls, software).
• Lead system trade studies to optimize performance, cost, reliability and manufacturability.
• Develop and validate system models to predict performance and risks.
• Mentor engineers and collaborate across global teams.
• Lead system integration and verification activities.
