Job summary

OTC Industrial Technologies in Baton Rouge is seeking a Welder Lead to apply welding expertise while guiding and developing the team. You will lead by example, perform welding and fabrication tasks, and help meet production deadlines.

The role requires 3–5 years of welding and fabrication experience, 6G preferred, and ability to train others. The position offers hourly pay of $40.00-$46.00 with strong benefits and opportunities for growth.

Qualifications

• 3–5 years welding and fabrication experience with structural and pipe components.
• Proficiency in Stick, MIG, and TIG welding and blueprint interpretation.
• Lead experience or ability to coordinate work, train others, and communicate expectations clearly.
• 6G qualifications preferred; ability to obtain D1.1 welding qualification upon hire.
• Experience with rigging and cranes a plus; MSHA certification a plus.

Responsibilities

• Serve as a working lead, performing welding and fabrication while coordinating daily assignments and supporting the team in meeting production and project deadlines.
• Read and interpret shop sketches, blueprints and isometric drawings to lay out, fit, and fabricate structural components and piping systems.
• Perform Stick, MIG, and TIG welding using appropriate equipment and procedures to meet job specs.
• Guide and train welders on fit-up, welding techniques, equipment operation, and safe work practices; troubleshoot fabrication issues and support skill development.
• Check fit-up, dimensions, and weld quality; identify defects and coordinate corrections before work progresses.
• Set up and operate welding and cutting equipment, including oxy-acetylene and handheld plasma systems; support safe rigging and material handling.
• Communicate job progress, material needs, and safety or quality concerns to the supervisor; maintain documentation and a clean work area.
