Job summary

American Electric Power is seeking a Cybersecurity Technical Specialist – Proxy Engineer to lead secure web gateway design, administration, and ongoing optimization for enterprise users and data protection. The role combines engineering with operations, including policy management, incident response, troubleshooting, and cross-team collaboration to deliver secure web access services.

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience in cybersecurity, IT, CS, or engineering.
Experience administering enterprise web security, secure web gateway, proxy, or internet security technologies.
Strong understanding of HTTP/HTTPS, TLS/SSL, certificate management, authentication and identity services, networking fundamentals, DNS, routing and firewalls.
Experience troubleshooting complex infrastructure and application connectivity issues.
Experience analyzing security events, logs, and operational data.
Strong verbal and written communication skills and ability to lead technical troubleshooting across multiple teams.

Responsibilities

Administer, maintain, and optimize enterprise secure web gateway technologies and policies.
Design and manage web access security policies, URL filtering, traffic inspection, and user access controls.
Monitor platform performance and capacity; lead troubleshooting for complex web access and connectivity issues.
Coordinate upgrades, maintenance, and lifecycle planning for security platforms.
Evaluate security platforms and integrations with identity, monitoring, CASB, DLP, and SIEM tools.
Support incident response, post-incident reviews, and root cause analysis across teams.
