Responsible for moderate-scale security assignments with limited direction from senior team members. Develops and maintains necessary documentation of security systems, projects, and/or processes to ensure unified understanding of system details. Performs and analyzes security controls assessments (internal and third party) through application security testing, penetration testing or other means to ensure controls effectiveness. Identifies and documents potential mitigations/remediations and creates reports of findings with identified risk response. Participates in the review, evaluation, and recommendation of emerging security technologies. More involved in advanced level implementation, support, and/or usage of technical solutions. Assists with problem solving, decision-making, and functional area knowledge.
The Cybersecurity Technical Specialist – Proxy Engineer serves as the technical lead and subject matter expert for the organization's secure web gateway and web security services. This role is responsible for the design, administration, support, and continuous improvement of secure internet access technologies that protect enterprise users, applications, and data from web-based threats. The position combines engineering and operational responsibilities, including platform administration, policy management, incident response, troubleshooting, service optimization, and security control implementation. The successful candidate will partner closely with cybersecurity, identity, cloud, networking, endpoint, and operations teams to deliver secure, reliable, and compliant web access services across the enterprise.
Administer, maintain, and optimize enterprise secure web gateway technologies and associated infrastructure. Design, implement, and manage web access security policies, URL filtering controls, traffic inspection policies, and user access restrictions. Monitor platform performance, availability, and capacity to ensure reliable service delivery. Lead troubleshooting and resolution efforts for complex web access, proxy, authentication, and application connectivity issues. Manage platform upgrades, enhancements, maintenance activities, and lifecycle planning.
Serve as the technical subject matter expert for web security platforms and related technologies. Evaluate, recommend, and implement improvements that enhance security posture, operational efficiency, and user experience. Design and implement integrations with identity, monitoring, threat detection, and data protection technologies. Participate in architecture reviews and provide technical guidance regarding web security strategy and best practices. Identify opportunities for automation, process improvement, and operational efficiency.
Investigate and resolve security incidents involving web traffic, malicious domains, phishing attempts, malware downloads, and unauthorized access attempts. Support enterprise threat detection and response efforts through analysis of logs, alerts, and security events. Participate in major incident response activities and provide technical leadership during service disruptions and cybersecurity events. Perform root cause analysis and develop corrective actions to prevent recurring incidents. Collaborate with security operations, infrastructure, and application teams during investigations and remediation efforts.
Support and maintain integrations with: Enterprise identity and authentication platforms Security information and event management (SIEM) solutions Cloud access security broker (CASB) services Data loss prevention (DLP) technologies Endpoint detection and response tools Security monitoring and threat intelligence platforms.
Manage and resolve support requests related to web access, security policies, traffic inspection, authentication, and application connectivity. Participate in an on-call rotation and provide after-hours support for critical service disruptions and cybersecurity incidents. Develop and maintain operational procedures, runbooks, standards, and technical documentation. Support change management, problem management, and service improvement initiatives. Ensure service levels and operational objectives are consistently achieved.
The successful candidate will: Serve as the primary technical expert for secure web gateway services. Demonstrate strong engineering and operational capabilities. Drive continuous improvement of web security controls and services. Effectively balance platform reliability, security requirements, and business needs. Lead resolution of complex technical issues and major incidents. Build strong partnerships across cybersecurity, cloud, networking, and infrastructure teams. Maintain a proactive focus on risk reduction, operational excellence, and service resiliency.
Compensation Grade: SP20-008 Compensation Range: $98,993.00 - $128,688.00
