Job summary

The Town of Wallingford, CT seeks a skilled Maintainer to direct a crew in the operation, maintenance and construction of the town's potable water transmission and distribution system. You will read plans, prepare field reports and sketches, and assist with inventory control while ensuring safe work practices on site.

Five years of maintenance experience for a water utility plus two years in supervision are required; a valid CT Class B CDL is mandatory, with Class A CDL and DPH DSO II desirable.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent plus five years’ water utility maintenance experience.
• At least two years supervising the work of others; ability to lay out and direct tasks.
• Must possess a valid Connecticut Class B CDL at appointment and maintain it.
• Class A CDL desirable; DPH DSO II certification desirable.

Responsibilities

• Directs the work of a crew in operation, maintenance, repair and construction of water system facilities.
• Read plans, prepare daily field reports and sketches for record drawings; assist with inventory control.
• Diagnose and repair water mains and appurtenances; exercise independent judgment under supervision.
• Operate division equipment (backhoes, dump trucks, trailers) and ensure maintenance of equipment.
• Perform special projects and assist other divisions; maintain buildings and grounds; ensure safety.
• Oversee crew safety, enforce PPE, train staff, participate in safety investigations and training.
