Job summary

CJ Hughes Construction Co., Inc. is seeking an experienced Lead Operator for the Water Department to safely operate heavy equipment and lead crew activities on underground utility projects.

The ideal candidate will have strong experience laying water mains, reading grades and blueprints, and performing trenching in city streets and varied terrain. Applicants should have a minimum of 3 years as a Lead Operator, experience with trench boxes, and a preference for a CDL.

Qualifications

• Minimum of 3 years of experience as a Lead Operator laying water mains
• Experience digging in trench boxes required
• High school diploma or GED preferred
• CDL license preferred
• Must pass and maintain all required operator qualifications and testing

Responsibilities

• Operate heavy equipment including excavators, dozers, skid steers, and other machinery safely and efficiently
• Read and interpret grades, blueprints, and job specifications
• Lead and support crew operations on underground utility projects
• Install and connect PVC and ductile iron piping from 2" to 24" and larger
• Commit to safety, quality, and productivity on site
• Work in city streets and rural environments with varying terrain
