Job summary

Service Metal is seeking an experienced Lead Material Handler for our St. Louis distribution warehouse. You will guide a high-performing team to receive, ship, and inventory metal pipe fittings, valves, and flanges using RF scanners and forklifts.

This hands-on leadership role emphasizes coaching, process discipline, and daily performance improvements, balancing hands-on work with mentoring teammates for consistent operational excellence.

Qualifications

• 2+ years of lead/senior warehouse experience
• Able to lead/train others in an operational environment
• Forklift certified; train-the-trainer a plus
• Lift 50-75 lbs regularly
• Strong warehouse safety, accuracy, inventory control
• Balance hands-on work with coaching and problem-solving
• Hold peers accountable professionally
• Familiar with warehouse systems, scanners, and basic MS tools

Responsibilities

• Set the standard on the warehouse floor through example, coaching, and accountability
• Train and coach Warehouse Material Handlers on processes and work instructions
• Support onboarding and hands-on training for new hires
• Provide real-time feedback and guidance; escalate performance concerns as needed
• Support inventory accuracy through cycle counts and discrepancy resolution
• Ensure equipment, work areas, and material handling are safe and well-maintained

Service Metal is looking for experienced Lead Material Handlers for our distribution warehouse. In this role, you will be expected to work with a high performing team to receive, ship, and inventory metal pipe fittings, valves, and flanges using RF scanners, powered industrial trucks, and related equipment.

This position emphasizes leadership, coaching, and consistent operational execution-not just experience or tenure. While it is a hands-on warehouse role, it is intended for individuals who operate at a higher level by guiding others in real time, reinforcing expectations, and improving daily performance.

What We're Looking For:

• 2+ years of relevant warehouse experience in a Lead/Senior role


• Demonstrated ability to lead, train, or coach others in an operational environment


• Forklift certified, with train the trainer experience a plus.


• Ability to lift 50-75 lbs. regularly and work at a steady pace


• Strong understanding of warehouse safety, accuracy, and inventory control


• Ability to balance hands-on work with coaching and problem-solving responsibilities


• Comfort holding peers accountable in a professional, respectful manner


• Familiarity with warehouse systems, scanners, and basic Microsoft tools (Teams, Outlook, Excel)


• Reliable attendance and a consistent, team-oriented work ethic
