Job summary

City of Mesa is seeking a Lead Usher at the Mesa Arts Center to provide administrative support, supervise volunteer ushers, and assist with patronage during events. The role includes ensuring smooth patron flow, assisting guests with needs, and coordinating with backstage teams.

Work hours are irregular, including evenings, weekends, and holidays. Prior theater/event supervision and volunteer coordination are preferred; bilingual skills (English/Spanish) are desirable.

Qualifications

  • Graduation from high school or GED.
  • 1–3 years of customer service experience that includes solving customer problems.
  • Bilingual English/Spanish desirable.
  • First Aid Certification and CPR Certification desirable.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee events and performances; conduct pre-show briefings with ushers; ensure smooth patron flow entering and exiting the theater.
  • Coordinate accommodations for individuals and groups with special needs; resolve seating and ticketing complaints.
  • Report safety incidents; coordinate house opening with backstage management; act as on-duty manager during some events.
  • Create trainings for staff and volunteers; schedule and track trainings; coordinate staff for live performances.
  • Relieve supervisor of routine administrative work; proofread/edit documents; maintain organized filing systems; communicate policies to Front of House team.
